Kaumosi Opie

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Candidate

My name is Kaumosi Opie, and I’m standing for the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board because I care deeply about our community and the people who live here. I’ve called the North Shore home since I was nine years old, having grown up in the Peninsula, attending Belmont Intermediate and Takapuna Grammar, and now raising my own family in Hauraki with my husband and our four children. We own a home here, and I run a small cake business while studying a BSc in Psychology at Massey University. I’m a 39-year-old Tuvaluan woman who understands the challenges new arrivals face.

I’m not a career politician. I’m a local parent, community volunteer, and psychology student who sees the real challenges families, youth, and elderly face every day. I’ve spent years supporting grassroots cultural and youth initiatives, running a small home-based cake business, and coaching my kids’ sports teams.

I’m running because I want our community’s voice to be better heard in council decisions. Let’s make sure our North Shore thrives—not just for today, but for future generations.
