Communities and Residents (C&R) understands the pressures Aucklanders are currently facing and supports the Government's call for councils to get back to basics and deliver better value for your rates.
Earlier this week, the Government announced multiple actions and changes to the Local Government Act aimed at lowering the cost of living, delivering core services and infrastructure, and improving the efficiency of decision making.
For over 85 years, C&R has proudly stood for doing the basics well.
As a bottom line, C&R recognises that the council is empowered and paid by the community to deliver core services that provide infrastructure to allow families, communities, and businesses to thrive.
Every dollar paid in rates is a dollar taken from the pockets of families and businesses. This requires compassion and respect for the everyday struggles of our families, businesses, and communities. The C&R team recognise this sacrifice, and work to deliver value and efficiency in the necessary work of local government.
C&R also supports a review of the transparency and accountability rules that apply to councils. Under no circumstance should elected representatives be barred from accessing critical information needed to represent their communities.
It is high time for Auckland Council to live within their means like ratepayers have to, and recognise their concerns.
Trust that only C&R will unlock Auckland's potential to be one of the world's greatest cities.
